2025 Ringette PEI Provincials

Feb. 22, 2025

2025 Ringette PEI Provincials

The 2024/25 Provincials will begin on February 23rd and finish on March 5th.  Every team will play at least three games in a tournament style format.

Ice times will vary from one association to the other where home ice advantage will not always be considered by regular season standings and placements.

All round robin games will have two 17-minute periods with no possibility of overtime or shootout to break a tie.  Tie games are awarded 1 point.

All cross-over games / semi-finals will have two 15-minute periods with one - 5-minute overtime period to determine a tie-break.  Should there be no winner determined after a 5-minute overtime period then a shootout will occur.

Shoot out rules (cross-over games and gold medal games only)

Teams must pre-select 5 skaters in order from 1 through 5 on the game sheet prior to the game starting to determine which players will be in the shootout and in what order they will follow.  A coin flip will determine which team can choose to shoot first or second.  The highest score after 5 skaters from each team will determine the winner.  Should the game still be tied, players will shoot in a sudden death sequence to break a tie until each player on the roster has shot before any other player can shoot again.  No player will shoot twice before everyone has shot at least once.  Shooting order must be followed in the same order after all players have shot at least once.

Gold medal games will have two 17-minute periods with one 5-minute overtime period to determine a tie break and a coin flip to determine first ring possession to start the OT period.  Shootout rules will apply after a 5-minute overtime period resulting in a tie.

Playoff Round Robin

Breaking of Ties in Standings

When two or more teams have an equal number of points after the completion of the round robin games, the highest of the tied teams will be determined in the following order and considering the "Official Score" of the games.

  1. (head-to-head) the winner of more game(s) between each other during the round robin will be declared the highest position.
  2. (plus/minus) if still tied, the team having the greatest positive difference between goals for and against in games between the tied teams in the round robin will be declared the highest position.
  3. if still tied, the team having the least total goals against in games between the tied teams during the round robin will be declared the highest position.
  4. if still tied, the team having the greatest positive difference between goals for and against in all games during the round robin will be declared the highest position.
  5. if still tied, the tied team with the least total goals against in all games during the round robin will be declared the highest position.
  6. if still tied, a coin toss will be used to break the tie.

Important Notes:

  1. This procedure shall be followed in sequence until the tie is broken (i.e. one team is eliminated from the tie). Once one team is eliminated from the tie, the procedure reverts back to (i).
  2. This procedure, in most cases, will declare the team in the HIGHEST position. However, in some cases, the procedure will declare the LOWEST position between tied teams, and that team shall be dropped from the tie breaking procedure (i.e. the top two teams remain tied). In these cases, the procedure shall also revert back to (i) in order to break the tie between those teams that remain tied.
  3. In all cases, the maximum difference (spread) between goals for and against in each game is seven (7) goals. This is the "Official Score".

All playoff games must have 2 officials

Call ups and Roster

It is important to note that there are NO CALL UPS allowed for Provincials.  You must play with your regular roster.  Minimum amount of skaters is 7.  The only exception for call up is for a goalie within the same association at a division lower.  The roster on the tournament website is your official roster and has been synced with the rosters registered through your associations this year.

Game sheets and scoring

Must be submitted immediately after the game has ended and sent to troy.fraser@charlottetownringette.com .  The photo needs to be clear and has the full game sheet in the photo without any obstructions.  The data at the top of the game sheet needs to be filled out fully.

Games will only have a 7-goal spread and only be counted for a final score of 7 goals above the opposing team.  Should the 7-goal spread happen for a semi-final game before the first period it will be stop time until the second period has started.  The clock will return to stop time only if the 7-goal spread has been reduced to under 7 goals.

Ringette PEI reserves the right to modify, alter or enforce the rules as presented should there be any conflict or discrepancies.
